How To Enable Wireless Driver on Ubuntu

Currently, I am using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS as my daily driver. When I first installed it on my laptop, I did not find any wireless network. There was no wireless driver for my Broadcom BCM43142 wireless module on my dell laptop. It was very frustrating and heartbreaking as I was looking to use Ubuntu as the only OS on my laptop.

I started to check all the available settings. In the Software and Updates settings, I found my wireless driver option in the Additional Drivers option. As Broadcom has a proprietary driver and there was no open-source software available, Ubuntu choose to “not use the wireless device”. How funny!

I changed the settings to use the proprietary software for the wireless device. The WiFi started to work immediately.
